​Notice to vehicle owners transferring vehicle(s) to Kansas from out of state:
 
Starting Monday August 16th, 2021, for the State of Kansas to be in compliance with federal regulations, the Motor Vehicle Office will no longer be able to issue courtesy registrations for vehicles without titles. NMVTIS (National Motor Vehicle Title Information System), was established under the Anti Car Theft Improvements Act of 1996. It is a tool designed to assist state vehicle title agencies, vehicle title investigators, and law enforcement in deterring and preventing vehicle related crimes. It is intended to protect consumers from fraud and unsafe vehicles.
 
If you are currently not in possession of your title due to financing it, you need to contact your lienholder and have the title sent to the Motor Vehicle Department. ​Here is a list of things you need to know before making a trip to our office.

1. The Girard office is open to the public from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. We will still be in the office until 4:30 P.M. to answer phone calls and clean. The Satellite office located inside the Judicial Center in Pittsburg is open 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. (4:00 Starting May 1st, 2023)
2. There will be drop boxes available inside the court house if you do not need to wait. If dropping a payment off make sure to include a way for us to contact you if we have any questions.
3. VIN Inspections are open at the Sheriff’s Department from 8:00 A.M. to 3:45 P.M. Please make sure to have your title, driver’s license and $20.00 cash or check when you arrive and follow the signs. 4. We are currently processing driver’s license transactions by appointment only.

This system makes it convenient for Kansas motorists to renew their vehicle registration electronically.

To renew online, all of the following must be true:
The vehicle is currently registered in Kansas.
You have a Kansas Motor Vehicle registration renewal notice that contains a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Print Registration Renewal Notice
Your address on the renewal notice is current.
The vehicle is currently insured by a participating insurance company.

Salvage Titled Vehicles

Salvage titled vehicles being put back to highway status AND Kansas non-highway titled vehicles being put back to highway status.
Inspections are performed ONLY at the Girard Police Department by the Kansas Highway Patrol on Wednesdays from Noon until 2:00 P.M.  The fee is $25, cash is preferred. NO credit/debit cards accepted.
