Blood Pressure Screenings
Available by request when nurses are available or by order of physician for monitoring purposes. Monthly clinics at congregate meal sites.

 

Chronic Disease Risk Reduction
Program which targets smoking, lowering dietary fat, and increasing physical activity to reduce risk of chronic disease.

Community Health Screenings
Cholesterol, Hemoglobin, & Glucose Screenings - $10.00 per test

 

Early Detection Works
Program for women 50 and over which allows underinsured and/or uninsured to have annual breast screening (mammogram and clinical breast exam) at no charge. It also allows women 40 and over to have yearly cervical screening (pap smear and pelvic exam) at no charge.

 

Educational Films and Pamphlets
The Health Department will help arrange and assist with programs including ordering of pamphlets and films. A pamphlet library is maintained for community reference and use.


Environmental Health
Defines and insures safe disposal of domestic waste. Regulates and controls the development of private wastewater on-site systems and private water systems. Insures safe storage, collection and disposal of solid waste. Establishes appropriate management approach to control nonpoint source pollution. Defines wastewater requirements for single family and subdivisions located in Crawford County.

 

Performs on-site waste inspections, private well water assessments, and inspection of daycare centers and residential centers.


Healthy Start Program
Our Healthy Start Visitor contacts and supports pregnant women and children up to 2 years of age under the supervision of a registered nurse.


Immunizations
The Health Department is equipped to administer all state mandated childhood vaccines as well as adult Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. On-site clinics are provided for flu and pneumonia, school clinics for tetanus and kindergarten pre-enrollment. TB skin testing is available and information on international travel can be provided upon request.

International Travel
The Health Department can provide some of the needed vaccinations for travel abroad. It is recommended to call ahead to inquire about the vaccinations needed and their availability through the Health Department.


Kan Be Healthy
Eligibility
Children ages 0-21 who are eligible for the Medicaid program and have a valid Medicaid card may receive periodic free child wellness screenings. The screening consists of periodic physicals and age appropriate development testing, which includes: vision and hearing screenings, dental screenings, lab tests, immunizations and appropriate referrals.

Immunization records, a physician’s referral, and a current Medicaid card should be presented at time of appointment.

 

Licensing Agency for Child Care
Conducts licensing surveys for Kansas Department of Health & Environment for:

  • Day Care Homes
  • Group Day Care Homes
  • Preschools
  • Day Care Centers
  • Residential Youth Centers
  • Attendant Care Programs
  • Facilitates enrollment of registered day care homes.
  • Offers childcare information and education.
  • Investigates complaints and non-licensed care.

School Health Screenings
Contract services offered to schools including:

  • Hearing Screenings
  • Vision Screenings
  • Scoliosis Screenings
  • Immunization Audits
  • Pre-Kindergarten Round-ups


Special Services for Children
Initiates and assists parent’s application for special services for children in Kansas. Assists parents applying for special services for children due to congenital, physical or other handicapped conditions.


Straight Talk Program
The Straight Talk Program addresses the risks and realities of teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, alcohol, tobacco and drug use. Teen speakers offer presentations to area school and organizations encouraging family communication and positive life choices.


WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN)
Program covers Crawford, Bourbon, and Allen Counties
A supplemental nutrition program which is federally funded. Food vouchers are for formula, cereal, milk, eggs, cheese, juice and peanut butter or beans.

 

Eligibility
Pregnant women, recently delivered women, infants, and children up to 5 years of age.

Mission
The mission of the Crawford County Health Department Health and Family Services is to provide a wide range of health services that have a demonstrated need in the community, giving priority to those services which are not or cannot be provided at an affordable rate by other sectors of the community. The Health and Family Services Department will service all residents of Crawford County and the surrounding areas, without regard to race, creed, color, national origin, or economic status.

Payment
Fees are based on family size and income. Individual payment plans can be arranged. No one is denied service because of inability to pay.
